Mauritius is a year-round destination, but the weather, the sea and the prices change a lot between seasons.
May to December is the easiest windowIt is cooler and drier. The hot, humid summer runs roughly from November to April.
Season by season
- May to October (winter)Mild days, lower humidity and the least rain. Evenings can be cool, and the sea is still pleasant for swimming. The south-east trade winds make the east and south breezier.
- November to DecemberGetting warmer and more humid, with the island busy over the Christmas period.
- January to April (summer)Hot, humid and wetter. This is the cyclone season, mostly January to March. Risk is real, so book flexible rates and insurance.
- Swiss school holidaysJuly and August, and December to January, are the busiest and most expensive times.
Which coast
In winter the north and west are usually calmer, drier and sunnier, while the east and south get more wind and showers. In summer the sea is warm everywhere.
